A ROLLERCOASTER ROAD TRIP
In less than a days drive thru the northwestern corner of Arkansas, you can travel two scenic byways, with historical and picturesque views.
Highway 71 from Fort Smith to Fayetteville is the original Butterfield stagecoach route and still a beautiful drive. This drive twists and dips up through the Boston Mountains by small old towns and family farms. In both the Spring and Fall the leaf peeping is more than worth the trip. In the Spring the redbud and dogwood trees hold their own coming out party, with wide splashes of pink and white scattered across the mountain views. The small patches of wildflowers are the dancing slippers. In the Fall the reds, oranges and yellows of the trees make the mountains as bright as any fire. The little roadside antique shops and farmers produce stands are the place to get out and streach your legs, and if you are lucky find a real bargin.
